Purifiers, UV Lights, Humidifiers, and Better Filters
Family-owned and open 24/7.
If the house feels bone dry all winter, the dust is back a day after you clean, or the air just feels stale, our indoor air quality work in Dutchess County, NY, may help. We add the right piece to the heating and cooling system you've already got: a whole-house air purifier, a UV light, a humidifier, or a better filter. We're a Hopewell Junction company working across Dutchess, Putnam, and Northern Westchester. Call (914) 299-5977 any hour.
Cleaner Air
Most of this equipment works with forced-air systems, meaning a furnace, heat pump, or central air that moves air through ducts. Every time the blower runs, the air passes through whatever we've added.
- Whole-house air purifiers mount in the ductwork and clean the air as the system circulates it, which can help cut down on the dust floating around the house.
- UV lights go inside the air handler (the indoor unit that blows air through the ducts), near the cooling coil. That coil stays damp all summer, and the light helps keep it from gunking up, so air moves across it more easily.
- Airflow checks look for rooms that never get enough air, leaky ducts drawing dust in from the attic or basement, and return vents (the grilles that pull air back to the system) that are blocked or too small.
“They're always there when you need them and don't try to "sell" you more heating/cooling stuff than you need. I completely trust these guys!”
Comfortable Humidity
Winter heat dries a house out. You notice it in the static shocks, the gaps opening up in wood floors and trim, and air that just feels parched by February.
A whole-house humidifier connects to your furnace ductwork and a water line and adds moisture as the heat runs. You set the level once on its control, instead of hauling a portable unit from room to room and refilling it every day.
It needs ducts to do its job. If your heat comes from a boiler and radiators, there's no ductwork to carry the moisture, and we'll tell you that up front.
Better Filters
The filter is a small part that does a lot of work. A higher-MERV filter (MERV is the rating printed on the frame) catches finer dust than the thin one many systems come with. The catch is that a denser filter can choke the airflow on a system that wasn't set up for it, which makes the blower work harder. So before we put one in, we check that your system can handle it.
Filters get looked at during tune-ups, too. We supply them, and we check and change yours during AC maintenance visits in the spring.
Indoor Air Quality Frequently Asked Questions
Will a whole-house humidifier help with dry winter air?
If you have forced-air heat, usually yes. It puts moisture into the warm air as the furnace runs, and it works for the whole house at once, not just the room where a portable unit sits.
What does a UV light in an HVAC system do?
It shines on the cooling coil inside your air handler, which stays wet whenever the AC runs, and helps keep that coil cleaner. The lamp weakens over time, so it gets replaced on a schedule, usually around once a year.
What does MERV mean, and which filter should I use?
MERV is the rating printed on a filter's frame, and it tells you how fine a particle the filter can catch: the higher the number, the finer it filters. The right one for you is the highest rating your system can pull air through without straining, and that varies from system to system, so we'll check yours and supply the right one.
Why is my house so dusty, and can my HVAC system help?
A thin filter, leaky ducts pulling air from the attic or basement, and a fan that rarely runs can all keep dust moving around. A better filter or a whole-house air purifier can help reduce it, and we'll look over your system during a heating maintenance visit or a separate call to see which would make the biggest difference.
Can you add air quality equipment when I get a new system?
Yes, and it's the easiest time to do it, since the system's already open. Ask about a humidifier, UV light, or better filtration when you get a quote for AC installation or a new furnace.
