Signs Your AC Needs Repair

Call us if you notice any of these:

  • Air from the vents that's cool but not cold, or not cool at all
  • The AC won't turn on, or the outdoor unit hums but the fan doesn't spin
  • Ice on the copper lines or the indoor coil
  • Water dripping or pooling around the indoor unit
  • Grinding, squealing, rattling, or loud clicking you didn't hear last year
  • Weak airflow, even with a clean filter
  • The system turning on and off every few minutes
  • One room that's always hotter than the rest

Before you call, it's worth checking that the thermostat is set to cool and the breaker hasn't tripped. If both look fine, the problem's inside the equipment.

What We Fix

Every repair starts with finding the actual problem, not guessing at it. Here's what we repair:

  • Electrical parts. Capacitors (the part that gives the motors a kick to start) and contactors (the switch that turns the outdoor unit on) wear out from heat. They're common, quick fixes.
  • Fan motors. If the outdoor fan isn't spinning, the system can't get rid of heat.
  • Refrigerant leaks. Refrigerant is what carries heat out of your house. When it's low, there's a leak somewhere, and topping it off without finding it just means another call next summer.
  • Compressors. The pump in the outdoor unit that moves the refrigerant, and the biggest repair an AC can need.
  • Frozen coils and airflow problems. Usually a dirty filter, a blocked coil, low refrigerant, or a blower that's struggling.
  • Clogged drain lines. The cause behind most indoor water leaks.
  • Thermostats. Sometimes the AC is fine and the thermostat isn't telling it to run.

Ductless systems break too. We repair mini splits, from indoor units that won't cool to outdoor units throwing error codes. We install and service all the major brands, including Mitsubishi and Trane.

Any Hour, Any Day

We're open 24/7. Repair visits have a service fee, and nights, weekends, and holidays have an after-hours fee. We'll tell you the amount when you call. Tell us what the system's doing and how long it's been going on, and we'll take it from there. More on what we handle after hours is on our 24/7 emergency service page.

Repair or Replace?

Most AC problems are worth fixing. A bad capacitor or a clogged drain doesn't mean you need a new system. But when an older unit needs a major part, like a compressor, or it's leaking refrigerant year after year, putting that money toward a new system can make more sense.

We'll give you the numbers for both and tell you which way we'd go. If replacing wins, our AC installation page explains how that works. The choice is always yours.

“Scott did a great job! Gave him a call and he was there in under 24 hours to fix my air conditioning. His years of experience are very apparent, fair pricing, and good communication. I will be using him again in the future. Thank you!”

AC Repair Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my air conditioner running but not cooling the house?

The usual causes are a dirty filter, a dirty outdoor coil, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failed capacitor that's shut down the outdoor unit while the indoor fan keeps blowing. Change the filter first. If that doesn't help, call us.

Why is water leaking from my indoor AC unit?

Your AC pulls moisture out of the air, and that water drains away through a small pipe. When the pipe clogs or the pan under the coil cracks, the water ends up on your floor. Shut the system off and call so we can clear it before it damages a ceiling.

What should I do if my AC coil is frozen?

Turn the cooling off and run just the fan so the ice melts, and don't chip at it. Ice usually means poor airflow or low refrigerant, so it'll freeze again until the cause gets fixed.

My AC started making a loud noise. Should I turn it off?

If it's grinding or screeching, yes. Those sounds often mean a motor or bearing is failing, and running it can turn a small repair into a big one. A steady hum or a click at startup is usually normal.

Is it worth repairing an old air conditioner?

Often, yes, if the repair is small and the unit's been reliable. When the fix is a major part or the system's had a few bad summers in a row, we'll show you the cost of a repair next to the cost of a new system. Regular AC maintenance can stretch the life of the one you have.
